Adjusting to Life With a Disability

At age four, I began to use Braille. At age six, I learned to use a cane. I was born blind and acquiring these skills at an early age have been instrumental in my abilities to accomplish the things that I have achieved over my lifetime.

Although I have friends that lost their sight at an early age too, they were fortunate as well because they were young enough to acquire those necessary skills just like I did. It wasn’t until I got older and started working with and meeting individuals that lost their sight as adults as the result of various reasons; trauma, sickness, accidents, etc, that I started to wonder, what would it be like to have to make these adjustments?

In the latest episode of OLWJ Captivation, Tyrethia Creamer explains what she had to do in order to adjust to being blind.
